Miss Spang

Hello!

My name is Miss Lauren Spang, and I am the fifth grade Language Arts teacher at Rostraver Elementary School.  Fifth grade Language Arts consists of Spelling, Grammar, Writing, and Vocabulary Enrichment.

I am excited to begin my ninth year of teaching Language Arts at Rostraver Elementary School.  As an alumna of Belle Vernon Area High School, I am proud to be teaching in my hometown as a permanent BVA Leopard.  Coincidentally, I am lucky to be teaching 5th grade in the exact same classroom that was my 5th grade homeroom when I attended Rostraver Elementary School many years ago!  Some of my favorite memories at RES included participating in the 4th and 5th grade Spelling Bees!

I graduated with my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Saint Vincent College and received my Master’s Degree in Special Education from California University of Pennsylvania shortly thereafter.  During the Summer of 2016, I attended the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project, a 4-week writing fellowship for teachers run through the University of Pittsburgh.

In my spare time, I also enjoy reading, writing, and running.   I like to train for long distance races, such as 5Ks, 10Ks, and half marathons.  I recently completed my second full marathon through the Pittsburgh Marathon course.  My students will often hear me reference my love for long distance running as I write alongside them and share my personal writing samples.  I cannot wait to share my love of writing with my students and am very eager to get to know the 5th graders at RES this year.
